What's it like to be a Director?
Director is a senior position in a company in charge of making key decisions for the business. Directors may be an executive and run the day-to-day operations of a business. Non-executive directors, meanwhile, are involved in the policymaking of a company. They usually serve on boards who are responsible for hiring management, evaluating company performance, and deciding the financial and strategic direction of a business.
Tasks and duties
- Overseeing a business’ finances, operations and projects.
- Developing a company’s business strategy.
- Evaluating company performance and determining KPIs.
- Hiring senior management such as the CEO, COO and CFO.
- Creating and implementing company policies.
- Fostering good business relationships with partners and stakeholders.
- Representing the company at press and social events.
How to become a Director
Philippine law requires that all Directors appointed by a company must be over 18 years of age and hold no criminal record. Business professionals with extensive work experience and an MBA or related degree are highly sought after for this position.
- 1.Complete a bachelor degree in business management, finance, economics or a related field.
- 2.Gain work experience. You could pursue business experience through school organizations, exchange programs or volunteer work. Or you could undertake an internship in the management department of a company.
- 3.Consider advancing your career with a postgraduate degree such as a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
- 4.Gain several years of work experience, ideally in leadership positions that progress your management skills.
